Volvo Issues Clarification After Self Drive Demonstration Disaster
Volvo was in the latest news past few days after a disastrous self-drive demonstration. The self drive car knocked off a person while the demonstration was going on.
Volvo claim that the disaster could have been avoided if the car was fitted with a Pedestrian Detection tech. The driver of the car alleged that he had turned off the City Safety function during the demonstration.
The City Safety system is to avoid collisions with other vehicles during heavy traffic and will work at low speeds to avoid rear ending a car. It is not designed to avoid pedestrians.
Volvo also says that the incident that took place was due to human error and not its safety technology that is at fault.
