Skoda, after registering sales of over a million vehicles in a year, has decided to increase production of the Fabia, Fabia Combi (estate) and the Rapid spaceback.
Up to 1200 of these vehicles run off the production line everyday in three shifts. Previously, only 800 vehicles were able to roll of production line a day in two shifts. By adding another shift, Skoda has managed to offer work to an additional 800 people.
Over the coming years, Skoda plans to increase sales to at least 1.5 million units per year. Skoda cars have become very popular and the Rapid has been awarded 5 star safety rating for crash tests that have been conducted recently.
Skoda and the Volkswagen Group invested 45 million euros alone in the newly opened Skoda Engine Centre, which is one of the largest industrial investments of recent years in the Czech Republic.
In 2014 sales of the Skoda Rapid Spaceback increased nine fold over the previous year, with a total of 72,000 sold around the world. In 2013, Skoda sold just 8,000 units.
