Several Petrol Pumps Forced To Shut Down In India For Malpractices

By Ajinkya

Over 150 petrol pumps across India were forced to shut down due to malpractices. In certain cases, licenses have also been completely terminated for issues like adulteration and faulty measurement.

It was not an instant decision. Officials have been checking for irregularities during a span of three years, based on which, several fuel station licenses were terminated by Oil Marketing Companies.

State run oil companies like Bharat Petroleum, Hindustan Petroleum and Indian Oil Corp. have also witnessed irregularities. Several of their outlets have been found guilty of adulteration and faulty measurement of fuel.

Petrol and diesel outlets with maximum malpractices were found in the following states - Maharashtra, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu, amongst several others.

This is definitely good news for the consumer as cheating might reduce. If fuel stations continue malpractices, their licenses look set to be terminated and will not be allowed to continue to operate.
