7 Premium SUVs That Are India Bound Soon!
The SUV segment is a growing market around the world and in India as well. Most of the carmakers are upgrading or coming up with new ones to cater to this demand.
Few receive just minor or exterior facelifts while some are entirely new while a few models are the first of its kind and making an entry into India for the first time.
So, let's take a look at 7 premium SUVs that are India bound and what they have to offer:
1. Toyota Fortuner:
The Fortuner has been in India for a while now. This premium SUV, although not the flagship model that is on offer in India, managed to sell decently and is now coming to India with a facelift. It has shed its macho look for a sleeker, sportier and more aerodynamic exterior.
India could see the new Fortuner with either a 2,755cc diesel engine producing 177 horsepower and 450 Nm torque with a 4WD or 2WD option with auto transmission, or a 2,393cc diesel engine producing 150 horsepower and 400 Nm torque. Although a petrol engine is offered internationally, Toyota might not have that option available here.
2. Mitsubishi Pajero Sport:
Mitsubishi was teasing the new Pajero Sport for a while before it launched the vehicle in Thailand recently. This will be the only model on offer by Mitsubishi in the country. The new Pajero Sport too has had a major facelift.
The Pajero Sport will be offered in India with a 2.4-litre, turbo-charged diesel engine that produces 178.45 horsepower and 430 Nm of torque. This engine will come mated to a 8-speed automatic transmission and with Super Select 4WD.
3. Ford Endeavour:
The Endeavour has been in the market for a long time now and the company has decided to give the vehicle a fresh look to sell bigger volumes. The Endeavour too has received exterior facelifts that match Ford's new design language.
Powering the new Endeavour will be a 2.2-litre 4-cylinder diesel motor which puts out 160 PS of power and 385 Nm of torque. There's also a 3.2-litre, 5-cylinder diesel engine that makes 200 PS of power and 470 Nm of torque, which will have a 4X4 option.
4. Nissan X-Trail:
Nissan too joins the upcoming premium SUV list with the X-Trail. The X-Trail too has adapted a sleeker design compared to its previous generation model, which was boxy. Poor sales made the Japanese carmaker withdraw the product from India. This will be Nissan's flagship model in India when launched.
It could be powered by a 2.0-litre diesel engine mated to a CVT transmission and will have an electronic 4-wheel drive system. The X-Trail could also be offered as a 7-seater in India.
5. Volkswagen Tiguan:
Volkswagen is in line to launch the Tiguan SUV in India. The company has plans to assemble the SUV in India itself. It could have a 5 or a 7-seater option.
Internationally, the Tiguan is powered with a diesel as well as a petrol mill with a 2WD and 4WD option. In India however, what is going to power the Tiguan is still suspense.
6. Chevrolet Trailblazer:
After sales has taken a severe beating, Chevrolet is doing everything possible to gain market share in India, which includes launching new car models. One such launch will be the Trailblazer SUV. It will most likely be launched in India by the end of this year.
It will most likely be powered by a 2.5-litre diesel engine that will produce 150 PS of power with 350 Nm of peak torque or a 2.8-litre displacement diesel engine with 180 PS power and 470 Nm of torque.
7. Land Rover Discovery Sport:
Another new SUV for the Indian market by Jaguar Land Rover—the Discovery Sport. Scheduled to be launched on the 2nd of September, dealerships have already started accepting booking for the vehicle.
Powering the SUV is a 2.2-litre diesel engine that produces either 140 PS or 180 PS of power. We're not sure which variant will be launched or if both will be offered. The Discovery Sport will be mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission and will have a choice of 2WD or 4WD option.
