Car Sales Fall By 60 Percent In Assam After Ban!
With the festive season coming up, carmakers had high hopes to sell more vehicles in the Indian market, but the Gauhati High Court's rule has put a full stop to that.
The recent rule passed by the Gauhati High Court says that small cars should not be sold in Assam if they do not meet global crash test standards. The state has banned sales of all small cars under 1,500 kg. As a result, sales has dropped by 60 percent.
Taking into consideration that the northeastern states account for 12 percent of car sales in the country and out of 141,526 people who lost their lives in car accidents in India, 2,522 people lost their lives in Assam alone.
Popular brands and models like Maruti Alto, Suzuki Swift, Hyundai i10, Eon and the Honda Jazz are affected and one particular Maruti Suzuki dealer claims that his showroom alone has had to stop deliveries of almost 300 Alto and Swift models that had to be delivered this month.
So, was the ban on sales to save lives a good move by Assam? Please let us know in our comment box below.
