Mitsubishi To End US Manufacturing Unit Due To Low Output
Mitsubishi currently has a manufacturing unit in United States of America. The Japanese manufacturer, however, will be shutting it down due to low vehicle output from it.
Three years ago Mitsubishi stopped producing their vehicles in Europe. They manufacturer their vehicles in countries where labour is cheap and export products out to international markets.
The Illinois production facility in US has 1,250 workers and has a capacity of 1,20,00,000 units. Mitsubishi's facility only managed to produce 60,000 units of the Outlander Sports during 2014.
Japanese manufacturer is on the lookout for buyers for their Illinois facility. They are also exploring options of setting up a new facility in Asia, especially in Thailand and the Philippines.
North America is still one the biggest markets for Mitsubishi Outlander Sports. It is their best-seller, however, in terms of competition they are still far behind Honda and Toyota's SUV models.
Mitsubishi will focus on exports to developed markets and will continue providing the same quality products. They will also benefit from the more affordable labour costs that Asian markets are known for.
