New Mercedes E-Class To Feature Steering Assist
Mercedes-Benz introduced the first production car to steer itself in certain situations in the form of the S-Class.
At present, the car can steer itself and handle low speed traffic on roads with mild curves curves and preventing highway lane changes when a car is in your blind spot. That is truly amazing.
But what is more amazing is that Mercedes is all set to debut a more advanced technology called Steering Assist, in the next generation E-Class that is due to launch early next year.
The Steering Assist in the new E-Class will be able to handle highways and country lanes that have a bit more than just mild curves. The system will be able to adjust speeds according to street signs, and the German carmaker has demonstrated this at speeds of up to 80 mph!
The vehicle will also have a new pedestrian detection system, which will either bring the car to a halt when a pedestrian is in the way or steer around! this system is designed to work at speeds up to 40 mph.
This advanced system from Mercedes uses sensors that are placed around the car and a central computer to process all the information.
A few things that can be a hinderance to this new system is bad weather, temporary construction signs and sharp turns. But, the car will warn the driver well in advance in such a situation.
