Maruti Suzuki is planning on launching its premium hatchback in India within 2015. So far the vehicle is known by its codename, which is YRA. It is now emerging that the Japanese manufacturer could call this vehicle as ‘Fronx'.
The Japanese manufacturer will position its Fronx premium hatchback above their Swift model. Maruti Suzuki believes Indians are ready to purchase premium vehicles from their stables.
Suzuki recently unveiled its premium hatchback as iK-2 concept as 2015 Geneva Motor Show. It will mark its global debut in India as the Fronx, it could be named something else to suit other country preferences.
In terms engine Maruti Suzuki will provide both petrol and diesel variants. It is most likely to provide a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, while a 1.3-litre diesel mill will also be offered.
The main attraction of Maruti Suzuki Fronx will be its feature rich cabin. Japanese manufacturer is making sure that its premium hatchback will have segment first features and tech goodies that are not available in Indian hatchbacks.
Fronx by Maruti Suzuki will have to face competition in India from Hyundai's Elite i20, Volkswagen Polo and the soon to be launched Honda Jazz hatchback. Pricing will be key and should be in the range of INR 5,00,000 to INR 9,00,000 ex-showroom.
