Mahindra XUV500 To Receive An All-New Petrol Engine
Mahindra recently provided its XUV500 with a facelift for Indian market. Ever since the SUV was launched no changes were made to the model and the 2015 makeover was more than welcomed.
The XUV500 has always been sold in India with a diesel mill and manual transmission. Now for the very first time Mahindra engineers will be developing a petrol powered engine in its SUVs.
It is most likely that Mahindra engineers are developing petrol engines for export markets. Customers of SUVs in India prefer diesel units over petrol any day, due to various reasons.
Petrol-powered XUV500s could enter Australia, the Americas, the Middle East and Russian markets. It is unclear if Indians too will be offered this model.
Global markets prefer petrol over diesel, the latter of which is used at a minimum. In international markets, the price difference is not that big between both fuels and thus, most opt for petrol powered vehicles.
Design-wise the petrol powered Mahindra XUV500 will look similar to the diesel version except for the rear badge and petrol sticker on fuel cap. We expect that the Indian manufacturer will price this SUV in the INR 10,00,000 range.
