Mahindra S101 Could Launch Earlier Than Expected In India

By Ajinkya

Mahindra is testing the S101 compact SUV around its facility. Now there is a possibility that Mahindra could prepone the launch of S101. Previously, the compact SUV was slated to be at the 2016 Auto Expo in Delhi.

S101 is a codename for the compact SUV and Mahindra is yet to reveal the official name of the model. It is most likely to be christened as the KUV1OO or XUV1OO. If Mahindra prepones the launch they could skip revealing the name and would directly showcase the vehicle with production name.

At a recent press meet, Mahindra officials had confirmed that production of new engines for S101 has commenced on November 6, 2015. Mahindra has developed an all-new 1.2-litre petrol and diesel engine options. Performance figures were not revealed and both engines will be tuned for mileage.

Mahindra's S101 compact SUV will be built on the all-new platform. This will be their second product to be built around a monocoque construction. Previously, Mahindra built their XUV5OO model using the monocoque platform, instead of the traditional ladder frame.

The recently launched TUV3OO will heavily inspire interior of the S101 compact SUV. The interior design in TUV3OO was simple yet elegant, which surely impressed us. We hope Mahindra could replicate this success with the soon to be launched S101 model.

Mahindra will equip the S101 most likely with optional safety equipment in the base variant. Airbags and ABS with EBD will be offered as an option in the base model. The S101 will be a sub 4-metre product and will compete with the likes of Ford EcoSport and soon to be launched Datsun GoCross model.
