Fernando Alonso Airlifted To Hospital After Accident At Barcelona Test
Fernando Alonso has been taken to the hospital by a helicopter after he crashed in his McLaren Honda. The Spaniard was testing his new Formula One machine at the Barcelona race track. This was the last day of second pre-season testing, he is suffering with a concussion, however, no major injury was noticed.
The doctors insisted that Fernando Alonso stay overnight for observation. They ran several tests and had the Spaniard go through a CT and MRI scan, which, did not show any damage. They also confirmed that Alonso had spoken to the doctors and displayed normal behaviour.
The McLaren Honda lost control, while going through the third corner at Barcelona circuit. Fernando Alonso had completed 20 plus laps in his vehicle before crashing into the wall. The marshals explain that the accident occurred at speeds over 150 km/hr.
There is no confirmation on how the accident occurred and team claims that these things happen during testing. Jenson Button was next to drive the same car, however, McLaren Honda decided not to run it. They decided to check on the gearbox, engine and electrics of the vehicle.
In a surprising turn of events Lotus was on top of the timing sheet with Romain Grosjean posting the fastest lap. He was followed by Nico Rosberg in his Mercedes. Daniil Kvyat was third fastest in his Red Bull, followed by Felipe Nasr in his Sauber. Alonso was ninth fastest and completed the least amount of laps out of all on track.
