Fehrer Develops Light Roof For Smart Fortwo
Fehrer, a German automotive interior components producer has developed a new, lightweight roof for the new Smart Fortwo car.
The highlight is that it is a sandwich type design that makes this roof 30 percent lighter than the standard roof, which was on previous models.
A mix of materials like polyurethane, glass fibre and paper honeycomb, thermoplastic outer skin help making the roof really light.
Smart combination of decorative foil, structural PUR fibre-composite layers and a core honeycomb structure in a sandwich-type design help it make a light weight design.
This new roof is manufactured in Fehrer's manufacturing plant in Kitzingen district, in Germany and then shipped to Hambach, where the cars are made.
Feher makes interior components like seat pads, seat modules and composite components.
Feher, supplies and makes interior components for nearly 23 automobile brands, which include BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen group, Mahindra and Tata.
The company, founded in the year 1875, is part of the AUNDE Group since 2014, which has 100 plants in 27 countries across the globe.
