Chevrolet Bolt To Commence Production In Michigan By 2016
Chevrolet is under the leadership of General Motors, they had recently showcased its new electric vehicle at the Detroit Motor Show. They christened this vehicle as the ‘Bolt' EV, which will be launched soon.
The automobile manufacturer has now confirmed that the Bolt EV will go into production by late 2016. This all new electric vehicle will be manufactured from their facility in Michigan. It was currently showcased in its concept avatar and a production model is expected to be revealed at upcoming motor shows.
Chevrolet also manufacturers a hybrid vehicle called the Volt. The manufacturer has provided a frugal petrol engine, along with an electric motor. This hybrid vehicle has been priced at USD 35,000 or INR 21,62,825. In 2014 General Motors successfully sold 18,800 of their Volt vehicles in several markets.
The Chevrolet Bolt is a pure electric vehicle and is expected to launch in several developed markets by 2017. This electric hatchback model will have a range of 200 miles or 321.86 kilometres. The manufacturer is targeting a realistic goal of selling 25,000 to 30,000 electric cars in the very first year.
The Bolt EV will have to fend off competition from the likes of Nissan's Leaf as well as Tesla's small car project, which has been named as Model 3. The Leaf is already on sale in several markets and is doing well, during 2014 the Japanese manufacturer managed to sell approximately 30,000 units.
Chevrolet's Bolt EV is not expected to come to India anytime soon. Most manufacturers believe out market is still not educated on the use of electric vehicles. We are still a long way away from the use of electric vehicles and the Government has not provided existing manufacturers with any sort of relief through subsidies.
