Bangalore: Autos Seized For Refusal Of Hire And Demanding Excess Fare
Bangalore West Division Traffic Police have seized 100 auto rickshaws from in and around the City Market area for either refusing to go on hire or demanding excess fare.
This was part of a special drive by the police, where policemen were on the watchout or posed as customers in plain clothes.
In a matter of two hours, police seized and booked 100 auto rickshaws and imposed heavy fines on them. The drivers of the seized autos have been booked with multiple charges and 60 percent of them did not have valid documents like licenses and other documents necessary.
This raid was conducted after the police received several complaints from day to day commuters who were being refused transport service, by auto rickshaws, which are meant to be a part of the public transport service.
Also, another notable thing with auto rickshaws in Bangalore is that they offer service to areas only when they are sure they get someone for hire in return.
This special raid conducted by the Bangalore police is a good effort to send a strong message to other auto drivers and remind them of their duties.
