All Public Transport To Have GPS In Delhi
The Delhi Transport Department has made it mandatory for all public transport vehicles to be fitted with a Global Positioning System (GPS).
The department today denied Fitness Certificate to hundreds of vehicles for not being fitted with a GPS. There is a chance for the government to give a 15 day time limit.
The Transport Department had made the announcement saying June 1st was the deadline. If not fitted with a GPS, the government will not issue a Fitness Certificate.
The government initially made it mandatory for all auto rickshaws to have GPS last year, and then made it compulsory for taxis too.
The Taxi and Auto Unions however, are demanding that the government withdraws its decision and are threatening protest.
Installing a GPS will ensure safety of the passengers, especially women. The government should stand strong with its decision and make it compulsory equipment throughout India.
