Alfa Romeo Planning Formula One Comeback Soon
Formula One competition is likely to get an all-new competitor for the Championship. Alfa Romeo plans on making a comeback to the elite level of racing as soon as possible. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles currently owns Alfa Romeo brand and is keen to enter the Formula One bandwagon.
The 2016 Formula One Championship will witness Mercedes-AMG, Ferrari, Renault, and Honda manufacturers. The four manufacturers provide engines to several other teams in Formula One Championship. Alfa Romeo will be an excellent addition into the competition against top manufacturers.
Alfa Romeo has been part of Formula One back in 1950. The team secured two drivers Championships (1950 & 1951). Alfa Romeo as a team competed for the last time in Formula One Championship during 1985. Over the years, the manufacturer won ten races and stood on the podium 26 times.
Currently, it is unclear how Alfa Romeo will make its entry into Formula One. There are two options ahead of its parent company Fiat Chrysler Automobile, they can either take control of an existing team or form an all-new team from scratch.
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles was in talks with Red Bull Racing to use Alfa Romeo engine. The deal was to also rebrand the vehicle with Alfa Romeo elements. Unfortunately, Red Bull Racing decided to continue with Renault power unit for 2016. At this point there is no information as to when and how Alfa Romeo will enter Formula One.
