Volvo Concept XC Coupe Revealed Ahead Of Detroit Auto Show
Volvo has released images and a video of the second of the three design studies, the first being the Coupe Concept. This one is a two door crossover concept called the XC Coupe and it is set to be unveiled at the Detroit Motor Show this month.
Volvo XC Coupe concept previews the next generation XC90 crossover which is set to be launched by the end of this year. Like the Coupe Concept, the XC Coupe is built on the automaker's new Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) platform.
Volvo has not released a lot of details yet, but about the XC Coupe's design it says it's inspired by the design of modern sports equipments. Especially, by Swedish sports gear manufacturer POC, which makes high-tech protective gear for extreme sports athletes.

As such, key visual design elements include orange details on the outside with bold use of matte rubber mouldings at the rear and as skid plates in the front.
"The Volvo Concept XC Coupé is perfectly in tune with this active lifestyle. Its capability and protection is cleverly integrated into the sophisticated looks. Concept XC Coupé is ready and willing to bring you into the adventure zone and back," Thomas Ingenlath, Senior Vice President Design of Volvo Car Group says.

Volvo XC Coupe is characterized by 21 inch wheels, accentuated wheel-arches, a new topography on the bonnet, the 'floating' grille and flanked by the new T-shaped DRL light guides at the front. The rear light signature is also a distinctive element in the new design direction of Volvo Cars.
Volvo says the XC Coupe study makes use of high strength boron steel and structures, with new "ingenious decoupling", which has made it possible for the car to be both compact and safe at the same time.

"The Volvo Concept XC Coupé is perfectly in tune with this active lifestyle. Its capability and protection is cleverly integrated into the sophisticated looks. Concept XC Coupé is ready and willing to bring you into the adventure zone and back," Ingenlath adds.
