Volvo Bus Fire Caused Due To Faulty Design, Concludes CID
Post investigation, the Crime Investigation Department of Andhra Pradesh has come to the conclusion that faulty design of Volvo bus was one of the three main reasons behind the accident on October 30, 2013 in which 45 passengers were burnt to death.
Additional director general of the Crime Investigation Department, T. Krishna Prasad has said that a chargesheet will soon be filed and Volvo, as a company, has been named one of the accused. The CID will also recommend to the government that Volvo buses are not roadworthy due to their faulty design and services should be stopped immediately.

How the bus got engulfed with fire
The CID found that the primary and the secondary fuel tanks, made of plastic material, are close to the road and to the battery compartment.

When the accident occurred the tank, as well as the floor of the bus were pierced and a pipe that entered through the floor spilled fuel into the bus. Sparks from the battery compartment ignited the fuel, resulting in the intense fire.
The PVC interior of the bus was also one of the reasons why the fire spread so easily, CID says.
