Volkswagen Vento Fares Well In ASEAN NCAP Test
The German car manufacturer, Volkswagen manufactures the Vento sedan in India, and exports it sedan to the Malaysian market as the Polo sedan. The Germany-based company sells the sedan in Malaysia as a CBU (Completely Built Unit).
The Polo sedan exported to Malaysia is almost identical to the Vento sold in Indian markets by Volkswagen. However, there is a major difference in the Vento and Polo sedan which is that the Malaysian version has dual airbags in the front as well as in the side.
It is common to test these cars for safety and the Vento too went under close observation of ASEAN NCAP test. The variant tested was the 1.6-litre sedan with a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The Polo sedan did not disappoint, it scored four stars for both adult as well as child occupant safety.

Volkswagen Polo sedan could have scored a perfect five star, it lost a star owing to the lack of ESC. The German car manufacturer sells the Vento in India with Electronic Stability Control, however it is available only in the top most variant.
Manufacturers do not offer safety options on most of the variants in their line-up, as our safety norms are not as stringent as other international markets. It was noticed that many buyers are willing to pay extra for the safety features nowadays. We believe there should not be an option at all.

Each and every car should come with at least a full quota of airbags as standard equipment. It could make a major difference in case of an accident. We have also noticed that while many manufacturers are attempting to offer their cars with more safety features, they are still usually only available in the top most variant or as an option pack.
In European countries, a manufacturer cannot sell a vehicle unless it passes the stringent testing of EURO NCAP. Modern cars have to pass a particular benchmark of safety. If they cannot, they have to return to the drawing board to make their vehicle safer than it is currently.
It is good to know if the Indian-made Volkswagen Vento would have to participate in the ASEAN NCAP test, the top most variant would pass the test with flying colours. We would highly appreciate if the VW could offer it in lower trims too.
