Volkswagen To Introduce Budget Brand In India
Volkswagen is finding possibilities of introducing a new budget brand for Indian market. The German auto manufacturer's Chinese counterparts are close to finalizing the possibility.
The German car manufacture currently sells vehicles in INR 5,00,000 and above price range. Out of the entire 2.5 million people of passenger vehicle segment, they cater to only approximately 50% of the segment.

The German manufacturer is known to build tough and premium quality vehicles. In India Volkswagen has placed its vehicles in the premium hatchback and sedan segment. However, they plan to introduce a more affordable brand which, will fall in the sub-five lakh price point.
Mahesh Kodumudi, MD and Chief Representative of Volkswagen India told our source, "We are seriously considering a budget brand for India. We have looked at all the ideas which VW (HQ) had looked up for China. My teams here have been working very closely with the Chinese and German counterparts."

He further added, "We have the complete list of all the ideas that they have generated, and we know each and every idea. We are looking at what will be most prudent and suitable for India."
Volkswagen will take a decision on the new budget brand within the coming year. It will take them approximately three to four years to develop and launch the brand. They will build the engine and gearbox locally thus, getting the cost of the vehicle lower. The manufacturer has confirmed that the product offered in China will be different from India.

The German manufacturer plans to launch six to seven vehicles over a period of two years. They will launch a facelift of the Polo, Vento and a sub-four metre sedan. They will launch premium vehicles like the Jetta, Passat, Beetle, Tiguan and a new compact sedan.
