Karnataka Transport Department Collects INR 14 Crore As Tax

By Rajkamal

The Karnataka State Transport Department has generated a revenue of INR 14 crore by seizing vehicles that have been running on Karanataka roads without paying local taxes.

The State Transport Department has seized 1,000 cars, all high end vehicles that have been registered in other states and running in Karnataka.

The cash was collected as tax by the Transport Department because these vehicles were registered in other places where road tax is cheaper.

The regulation says that a vehicle registered outside the state cannot ply on Karanataka roads for more than 30 days without paying the life tax of Karnataka.

The Transport Commissioner says that the department is expecting another INR 3 crore that is yet to be paid by vehicle owners.

Apart from Bangalore, other places in the state also had similar checks. For example, 295 such vehicles were seized in Dharwad.
