Vehicle Speed In India To Be Revised
The newly appointed Indian government is in the process of improving small but important situations. The government has now decided to take up the issue of vehicle speed on our road. Currently we have different speed limits for different vehicle types, which makes it difficult to control.
As of now, the cars running on the road are more modern than ever before. However, speed limits in most cases have not changed in India. The government of India plans to increase the speed limit of each vehicle class.
The government plans to apply a speed limit of 100km/h for cars. Motorcycles and goods vehicles will have a speed limit of 80 km/h. They also plan to introduce a speed limit of 70 km/h for quadricycles.

The last time there was a revision of speed limits on Indian roads was approximately 20 years ago by the Road Transport and Highway Ministry. They had even set up a committee, which had recommended vehicle speed revision years ago.
Rohit Baluja, a road safety expert and member of panel told source, "We had recommended that there cannot be multiple speed limits on the same lane of a highway for different categories of vehicle. There has to be compatibility."

He further added, "While the Central government can fix maximum speed limit, it's the responsibility of local agencies and NHAI to ensure that there is no such conflicting speed on the same carriageway."
Currently expressways do not permit motorcycles on them, as the speed limit for two wheelers was 50km/h. However, with the introduction of new speed limits, there is a possibility that motorcycles will be allowed to run on expressways with a speed limit of 80 km/h.
