Although automobile sales has been low in 2014, manufacturers launched new models to encourage customers to buy cars.

Manufacturers launched numerous models in 2014, some being just facelifts and others, engineering marvels.

Lets take a look at the top 10 important launches in 2014 that aroused the interest of the market this past year.

At number 10 is the Honda City. The best seller from the Honda stable was launched on the 8th of January. Offered with two engine options, the petrol engine produces 119 PS power and 145 Nm of torque, and comes with a 5-speed transmission while the diesel engine produces 100 PS power and 200 Nm of torque.

The Etios cross was direct competition to the Volkswagen Polo Cross. This car was launched in the Indian market with two petrol engines and one diesel engine. The 1.5-litre petrol engine had 90 horsepower and 132 Nm of torque whereas the 1.2-litre engine produced 80 horsepower and 104 Nm of torque. The diesel engine offered 68 horsepower and 170 Nm of peak torque.

The Mobilio was a very anticipated launch from Honda. The Mobilio immediately kicked up some sales figures for Honda. The Mobilio was offered in both diesel as well as in petrol trims, producing 100 PS and 200 Nm of torque.

The Punto Evo is a very stylish looking car. Launched in August, is offered with two petrol engines, a 1.2-litre engine that produces 68 PS and a 1.4-litre that produces 90 PS. The Punto Evo is also available with a diesel engine, a 1.3- litre multijet engine, that is tuned to give 76 PS and 93 PS.

The best looking car from Hyundai. The car also won the Indian Car Of The Year Award. The Elite i20 is offered in the Indian market with a 1.2-litre petrol mill that produces 83 PS and a 1.4-litre diesel engine that produces 90 PS.

One of the biggest launches was the Tata Zest. The car is light years ahead compared to other cars Tata Motors has had on offer. The car is offered with a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine and a 1.3-litre Quadrajet diesel engine, both producing 90 PS. The Zest is also available with an Automated Manual Gearbox (AMT).

The Mahindra Scorpio was a very anticipated launch. The SUV has had a thorough makeover and the front headlights are head turners. The Scorpio gets a 2.2-litre mHawk engine that produces 120 PS of power and 280 Nm of torque, and a 2.5-litre m2DICR that produces 75 PS and 200 Nm of torque.

The Ciaz was Maruti Suzuki's answer to the mid-size premium sedan segment in India. The car is available in 10 variants, including two automatic variants. The Ciaz is offered with a 1373cc, four cylinder petrol engine that produces 92 PS and a peak torque of 130 Nm, whereas the diesel engine is a 1248cc, motor that produces 90 PS and 200 Nm of torque.

The Alto K10 was a huge launch for Maruti Suzuki. It is offered in 5 variants, which include an Automated Manual Gearbox (AMT) variant. The car has a 998 cc three-cylinder engine that produces 67 bhp and 90 Nm of peak torque. Maruti offers this car in a CNG variant as well.
