Tata Motors Selling Defective Cars; Fined Rs. 1.25 Lakhs
A New Delhi consumer forum has directed Tata Motors Ltd to pay compensation of Rs. 1.25 Lakhs. As a customers car developed numerous defects within the first year of purchase.
The New Delhi District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum found that the victim could not use the new car after purchase, due to imperfections and lack of quality check done by the car company.
Based on work receipts and job cards recorded by the complainant, the forum noticed that the engine and several other parts of the car needed change in 2005 the first year of purchase itself.

A bench presided by C K Chaturvedi explains, so many changes in parts never heard of while buying a new car . The car cannot be replaced as it has been almost 8 years, since purchase. Khalid Hashmi will be awarded a compensation of Rs. 1 Lakh and Rs 25,000 towards litigation expenses.
It was duly noted that Tata opposed the plea of Khalid Hashmi a Delhi resident, regarding how a new car could develop so many problems within a year.
Hashmi had purchased the car in July 2014, which caused problems from the very beginning. Even after an engine replacement and several other parts the problems still continued.
