Tata And Jaguar Land Rover To Share Platforms
A future Tata SUV with a Jaguar powerplant? Well, it may not be such a far-fetched idea because the big question of whether Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) and Tata would eventually share technologies and platforms has been answered.

They will indeed share vehicle platforms to begin with, moving towards technology and possible engine sharing as well in the future.

The story continues on the next slide.

Managing Director of Tata's Australian distributor, Darren Bowler, revealed to Drive that the Tata Nexon, shown in concept form at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo, would be the first vehicle built on a common platform to be shared with next-gen Ranger Evoque and a compact Jaguar.

He said, "You're going to see in the future a lot of sharing of technologies and platforms over time, but you won't see a JLR with a Tata badge on it or a Tata with a Jaguar badge on it or a Land Rover badge on it."

This technology and platform sharing will not lead to badge engineering (application of a different brand to an existing product and selling it as a different product), but the relationship could see even engines being shared in the future. Wonder how Jeremy Clarkson is going to react.

While it might be possible that JLR's new range of Ingenium engines finds its way into future Tata models, one gets the feeling that Tata is going to have to handle the image of JLR going forward extremely tactfully.
