SIAM: Safer Environment Needed Before More Safety Features In Cars
Road accidents these days are a big worry and indirectly affect the automobile manufacturers. They have been pushed to add additional safety features and make it a must.
The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), the representative body of automobile companies have clearly said that it is improper to push plans on bringing additional safety features to cars when there are loads of other factors like road design, geometrics, enforcement of speed limits and other traffic rules that need addressing first.

Vishnu Mathur, Director General of SIAM said that the government agencies first need to take steps to provide a safer environment and then focus on vehicle safety issues. He says just pressurising the automakers about safety is not fair.
In a conference organized by NATRiP, Mathur said safety features in a car will help only after the accident has taken place but very few gadgets will help prevent accidents.
The government however has not taken this well. They say they are trying to reduce injuries and fatalities during an accident and are addressing all issues. Vehicle safety is crucial and they will reduce injuries and fatalities, said Ambuj Sharma, the additional secretary in the heavy industries ministry.
