Mercedes, have shown how paired with technology, even long distance hauling can be made safer and easier. The company has Introduced features like Auto Pilot, V2V/V2I communication and even reserving a parking spot on the move!

The story continues on the next slide.

Highway Pilot
A light comes up immediately when the truck starts up. This is to tell the driver that the Highway Pilot mode is available. Once the technology identifies the present location of the truck, it maps the course using GPS.

Highway Pilot (contd.)
Once the driver activates Highway Pilot, the driver can take his hands off the wheel. The truck will maintain its speed and will do minor corrections by itself.
If the driver wants to relax, his seat moves back, rotates 45 degrees, so he can strech his legs. All this done by the push of a button. The truck drives by itself, in the presence of a driver.

V2V and V2I communication
The Future Truck basically works and communicates with sensors. Equipped with cameras and a real time map, the truck is able to communicate with other vehicles and buildings. V2V stands for Vehicle to Vehicle communication and V2I for Vehicle to Infrastructure communication. All this can be done using the tablet in the truck.

V2V and V2I communication (contd.)
The V2V communication works really well. If there is an ambulance or a police car that has to pass the truck, it will move over to give way.

Reserving Parking On The Go.
As the name suggests, when on the go, the driver can plan his next pitstop.. All he has to do is pick up the tablet and plan where he wants to stop. He can use the same tablet to reserve a parking spot. The driver can also pre-order a meal.

Planning On The Go
The driver can basically use his spare time and schedule his next trip. For example, if he has to pick up a refrigerated trailer, he can control the temperature of the trailer using an app so that when he arrives to pick it up, the temperature is just perfect.

With all these comforts, long hauling is way safer than before. Daimler AG, one of the world's largest commercial vehicle manufacturers, is based in Stuttgart, Germany. The company was founded in 1998.
