LED Headlights Stolen To Grow Cannabis From Range Rovers
The United Kingdom is facing a serious problem following a series of thefts involving high end cars. Thieves are said to targeting expensive cars with LED headlights, most of which are Land Rover models.
According to the authorities, the LED headlights (both daytime running lights and aftermarket LED lamps) are being stolen and sold to drug dealers to grow cannabis.
LED lamps are ideal replacement for sunlight as cannabis is grown indoors illegally. They are also energy efficient compared to regular light bulbs.

The reason why Range Rover models are being targeted the most is due to the ease with which the headlights can be stolen from these vehicles. An expert thief can finish the job within a minute, according to the police.
Besides their use to grown illegal plants, these expensive headlight units and other other parts of expensive cars are also being regularly stolen. The stolen goods are later sold as spare parts.
"The problem has become so bad in some parts of the country that police have launched an operation to advise car owners how best to protect their vehicles from thieves," according to Telegraph.
Officers have been stopping drivers of Land Rovers to ensure that they have the appropriate headlights for their vehicle. "If we stop a vehicle and it is suspected that it is fitted with stolen parts then these will be removed and the owner of the vehicle could face prosecution," the newspaper quotes Chief Inspector Steve Thomas as saying.
