Quadricycles Final Approval By Ministry Of Road Likely In A Month
The quadricycle segment in India is closer than ever to receive approval as the Law Ministry has cleared the proposal. The final hurdle that now remains is the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, which has to form the new category for the segment to be officially recognised.
This final step will reportedly be completed in a months time. Despite that we could only see our first quadricycles six months after that.

Understandably, Bajaj Auto managing director, Rajiv Bajaj is quite upset about the whole matter who feels this particular clause is being placed only to provide Tata Motors and other competitors enough time to develop their quadricycles.
"It's like telling Steve Jobs ‘please hold on to your product so that BlackBerry can reach your sales numbers'," he stated in an interview with Business Standard.

Remember that Bajaj showcased the RE60 two years back at the Auto Expo and has ever since been waiting to launch their product. If the six months delay clause is indeed implemented Bajaj would not hold the beginners advantage for long.
Also during the same interview, when asked about the pricing of RE60, Rajiv Bajaj stated that it would not necessarily be priced below Tata Nano. "For us, the key is cost of ownership and there we score because we will give double the mileage of the smallest car," Bajaj stated.
The other manufacturers which are interested in bringing their models to the quadricycle segment include Tata Motors and Mahindra. Maruti Suzuki, on the other hand, is not said to be interested in entering this segment as there is a chance that quadricycles would be limited to being light commercial vehicles.
