Formula E: Buemi Claims First Victory
Sebastian Buemi, won his first ever FIA Formula E race during the third round in Punta del Este in Uruguay. The young racing driver from Switzerland started fourth on the grid.
The initial laps were led by Nelson Piquet Jr, who took the lead from Jean-Eric Vergne, who made his first debut in Formula E, starting first on the grid.
The race saw the safety car come out four times throughout the race.
Vergne, Nick Heidfeld and Salvador Duran were the only three drivers who got to use Fanboost (which lets fans vote for their favorite drivers, who will get an extra boost of power in the next race) during the race. Vergne however, was unable to use it owing to a technical issue.
The Frenchman did not let anything stop him as he had Piquet locked with his eyes and quickly passed him, leading the race again, but was later forced to pit as his power usage was too much.
Nick Heidfeld, who led the race later on was given a drive-through for not taking the allotted time, which was meant for his car swap. That's when the Swiss driver made his move and took the lead.
The Frenchman gave Buemi a run for his money and just at the moment where he looked like he was going to take the lead, his car came to a halt.
Buemi emerged victorious, while Vergne's incident let Piquet take the second spot and Lucas di Grassi the third, followed by Jarno Trulli and Jaime Alguersuari in fourth and fifth respectively.
