Pirelli To Introduce 18-inch Tyres In Formula One
Post the Silverstone Grand Prix, teams were allowed two test days. Ferrari, Lotus, Force India and the remaining roster made the most out of the in-season testing time allotted. The current rules restrict manufacturers from testing components or technology. Teams are allotted fix periods to test their equipment.
Pirelli had something new and exciting to offer the drivers and teams. The Italian tyre manufacturer brought a prototype 18-inch experimental tyre to the test. The new low profile tyres will be available as soon as the Race Commission sanctions the new tyres.

As a fan the new 18-inch Pirelli tyre looks way better compared to the age old 13-inch tyres. The testing was done by Formula One Lotus team and their test driver charles Pic. The new tyres are exciting everyone in the paddock as it could change the dynamics of the vehicle.

The Italian manufacturer confirms not to expect these tyres anytime soon and could take two to three years to be approved. They so far had only showed graphic representation in a video, which is available below. This was the first time the tyres were taken out to show fans the future of F1.
