Highway Minister To Launch Electronic Toll Collection Tomorrow
The Government of India will launch the Electronic Toll Collection System (ETC) tomorrow for the Delhi-Mumbai Highway. It will be launched by Nitin Gadkari, the highways and Road Transport Minister.
The ETC system has been installed at 55 Toll Plazas already and their coordination with the Central Clearing House (CCH) operators is almost completed on the Delhi-Mumbai route, via Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Maharashtra.
A project for the interoperable ETC system of 10 toll plazas between Mumbai and Ahmedabad has already been tested and the ETC on this section has been proved to be successful.
"Indian Highways Management Company Limited," a new company under the Company's Act of 1056, with 25 percent participation from NHAI, 50 percent from concessionaires and another 25 percent from financial institutions has been established.
The aim of the company include toll collection through ETC and to manage the project and provide services of central ETC system commercially.
The central government of India has made orders to have ETC lanes as a mandatory section in the contracts given for all the highways projects in the future.
