Nissan Has Aggressive Plans For India

By Santosh

ToI has reported that Nissan India has revealed aggressive plans for the Indian market and is gearing up for several brand extensions, model revamps, and increase in manufacturing capacity and dealership network around the country.

Takashi Hata, senior vice president, Nissan Motor Company Limited, was in Mumbai recently to inaugurate its new sales and marketing headquarters. He said, "In the last two weeks, we have seen the traffic improving. People are now getting less concern of the future. That's a great sign of the belief of the people and is leading to more and more footfalls in our showrooms. Initially we were concern about the appetite of the people but that's improving day by day with the new government at the centre.

He also added that Nissan will look at operating their Oragadam (Chennai) plant at full capacity and increase production to 480,000 units from the current 4,00,000 units to focus on improving domestic market sales. Nissan has also increased its dealership network from 120 to 200 dealers in an effort to boost sales.

Haka admitted to Nissan making a poor first impression on the Indian market but hopes the company will ride on the success of the Datsun GO.

"Nissan has done very poor in India, we accept that humbly and we need to improve on that. Car sales need to be complemented with after sales service, where Maruti has the lead. We need to focus on that. We have not changed ourselves to understand the need of the customers. But now I am confident with the nature of our products. Let the products talk for themselves," Hata told ToI.
