Mitsubishi India Plan Includes 5 New Launches In Two Years
Mitsubishi is most well known in India for its sporty sedans, the Lancer and Cedia, which it no longer sells here, and its large, full size SUVs. That could soon change when the Japanese automaker brings its first hatchback to India in a couple of years.
Mitsubishi's executive officer and corporate general manager (Asia and ASEAN office), Ken Horinouchi has now said that the company is planning to launch, not just a hatchback, but 5 new models all together by 2016. Horinouchi revealed this information while interacting with Autocar Professional.

These cars would initially be imported from ASEAN markets, but at a later time they will start assembling these new models at Hindustan Motors' Chennai facility.
Among the five new models a new hatchback and a compact sedan have a high probability to be launched. That hatchback would have to be the Mirage, while the compact sedan is likely to be the Attrage.

An entry level hatchback, the Mirage will be a Hyundai i10 & Maruti Celerio competitor when launched here. Mitsubishi already sells the Mirage in neighboring countries such Indonesia.

The Mirage is powered by a fuel efficient 77 HP, 1.2-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine in these countries. A manual transmission aside, the Mirage also comes with a CVT automatic gearbox, but this may or may not come to India.

Mitsubishi Attrage is a compact sedan in the traditional sense, but it still measure 4.2 meters long. This means in India it would be 245mm too long to qualify for tax benefits. Mitsubishi could make appropriate changes to cut the car down to size if launched here.

Powertrain wise the Attrage is identical to the Mirage hatchback.

The remaining three vehicles will be Mitsubishi's trademark SUVs, including two brand new ones. The next gen Outlander is likely to be one of the three.
