Formula One legend and multiple World Championship winner Michael Schumacher is out of coma and has been discharged from the Grenoble hospital nearly six months after his skiing accident.

The 45 year old German was put under medically induced coma after he severely hurt his head in a freak skiing accident, to help him recover. Schumacher has now been shifted to an undisclosed location where he will continue his rehabilitation.

Schumacher was admitted to the hospital in Grenoble on 29 December following the accident in the French Alps. It was feared that he might never recover from his medically induced coma, but Schumacher, ever the fighter, has beaten all odds. His exact medical condition is still unknown.

"His family would like to explicitly thank all his treating doctors, nurses and therapists in Grenoble as well as the first aiders at the place of the accident, who did an excellent job in those first months."

"The family also wishes to thank all the people who have sent Michael all the many good wishes to Michael. We are sure it helped him."

"For the future we ask for understanding that his further rehabilitation will take place away from the public eye."
