Maruti Suzuki Wagon R Achieves 15 Lakh Sales Milestone
Japanese automobile manufacturer Maruti Suzuki has been the leader in terms of sales. The manufacturer has launched several successful products in India. They had recently launched their budget friendly hatchback, Celerio, which has been a popular choice for many.
Maruti Suzuki had launched its Wagon R hatchback in India back in 2000. They are proud to announce that since then they have sold over 15 lakh vehicles of the model. It is an achievement that a vehicle has achieved this milestone within 14 years.
During fiscal year 2013 to 2014 Maruti Suzuki managed to sell 1,56,000 Wagon R hatchbacks. In the current fiscal year, Japanese manufacturer has already managed to sell 93,000 Wagon R hatchbacks and is still going strong. It has been significantly contributing to the total sales of Maruti Suzuki.
Recently the Japanese manufacturer had updated styling of its Wagon R by introducing the Stingray. They have also provided a 1.0-litre petrol K10 engine, which is paired to a 5-speed manual transmission. It produces a decent power output of 68 bhp, along with 90 Nm of peak torque.
Maruti Suzuki has fitted their Alto K10 and Celerio hatchbacks with AMT option. It is most likely that the Wagon R too would get this update. The Japanese manufacturer has noticed a growing demand for AMT vehicles in India and would like to capitalise on this.
We would not be surprised to see Wagon R back in the list of top selling vehicles, once it gets an AMT option. There is also a updated version of Wagon R being tested with mild design updates. Suzuki had also showcased a 7-seater MPV based on the Wagon R at Indonesia Motor Show, we are unclear if this model would come to India.
