Maruti Celerio With Clutchless/Automatic Manual Transmission Rumored
Maruti Suzuki Celerio, the purported A-Star replacement, that the Indian automaker is expected to debut at the 2014 Auto Expo next month, will come with a feature that will be seen for the first time in a personal car in India.
The Celerio, known internally by its codenamed YL7, will be equipped with Automatic Manual Transmission (AMT), which is basically manual transmission that does not require the driver to operate the clutch lever.

Speaking to ET, a senior Maruti Suzuki executive has revealed that the AMT equipped Celerio will offer the comfort and convenience of an automatic transmission and the mileage of a manual transmission vehicle.
The main disadvantage of an automatic transmission hatchback such the A-Star or i10 is the low fuel economy and the premium you pay over the manual variant. For instance, the A-Star manual has a starting price of INR 3.88 lakhs, but the automatic variant costs INR 4.77 lakhs.
Maruti Celerio with AMT on the other hand will deliver a mileage similar to the manual A-Star or even better, but without the premium pricing of an automatic variant. The AMT equipped variant will only cost a little over the manual variant.
It's not known whether the AMT will be a five speed like a manual transmission or a four speed one like most automatic hatchbacks in India. The Celerio is expected to come powered by the same 1.0 liter three cylinder K-Series engine from the A-Star.
