Maruti Celerio Mileage, Specs, Images & Other Details Emerge
Maruti Suzuki Celerio, the car that will replace the Alto (A-Star in India) globally will be launched at the Auto Expo 2014 which starts on Feb 5th. Ahead of its launch Maruti has made live the Celerio website which reveals a load of information about the upcoming small car.
The website also reveals that the car is now available for booking.
The one key information for which we'll have to wait till the official launch is the price. The A-Star had a starting price of INR 3.9 lakhs (ex-showroom) that went up to INR 4.78 lakhs (ex-showroom). Maruti Suzuki can be expected to keep pricing in the same vicinity to make the car appealing.
EZ Drive
The one feature of Celerio that Maruti is highlighting is the Automated Manual Transmission or ‘EZ Drive' which is Maruti's commercial name for it. This is nothing but clutchless transmission, a type of semi automatic transmission that will feature in an Indian car for the first time. All of Maruti's yet to be aired TV commercials are centered around this particular feature.
Spacious interior
‘EZ Drive' apart Celerio has another offering that will appeal to buyers and that's interior space. Maruti Celerio measures 3600mm long, 1600mm wide and has a 2425mm wheelbase. The wheelbase is almost the same as Swift, promising the same cabin space as the larger hatchback. Moreover, the Celerio's 235 liters boot space is actually more than even Swift.
Variants
Maruti Celerio will be offered in three variants - Lxi, Vxi and Zxi. Curiously, EZ Drive will not be available with the top of the line Zxi trim which will come with a regular 5 speed manual transmission.
Features
The Zxi variant will come loaded with features such as steering mounted audio controls, electrically adjustable ORVMs, Bluetooth connectivity and trip calculator. On the safety front, Celerio Zxi trim will be provided with two airbags for the front passengers and ABS.
Engine & Mileage
The engine powering the Celerio will be the same 1.0-liter K Series, three-cylinder petrol engine that's found in the Wagon R. The engine develops 68PS power at 6000 rpm and a peak torque of 90Nm at 3500 rpm. In the 830 Kg Celerio, the engine will deliver an ARAI certified mileage of 23.1 kmpl. A diesel engine is not expected.
Stay tuned for live updates from DriveSpark from the 2014 Auto Expo next month where the Celerio, along with a host of other vehicles will be launched.
