Maruti New Compact Car For India To Be Called Celerio
The much talked about upcoming compact car from Suzuki, known until now by its codename YL7 and previewed by the A-Wind Concept at the Thailand International Motor Show in November 2013, now has a name. Celerio.
Suzuki Celerio is destined to be the replacement model for the Maruti Suzuki A-Star as well as the now discontinued Zen Estilo. In international markets, Europe for instance, the Celerio will be the next gen Alto (A-Star in India), bringing the end to the ‘Alto' badge outside India. Interestingly, the Celerio name is already in use in certain markets as a suffix to the Alto name.

Suzuki Celerio's global debut will be held at the Indian Auto Expo in February. The new compact car is based on the design language showcased by the A-Wind concept. Thus, the new hatchback will feature a sportier front fascia as well as sharper character lines. The Celerio will also be more spacious compared to the A-Star.

As for the engine, Maruti Suzuki is likely to make use of the K10 petrol engine and pair it with both manual and automatic transmissions. A variant powered by Suzuki's under development sub-liter class diesel engine could also be added to the lineup at a later point in time.
