Karl Slym, Tata Motors MD Passes Away
In an unfortunate turn of event on Sunday, Jan 27, Karl Slym, 51, Managing Director of Tata Motors passed away in Thailand. It is reported that Slym's untimely demise was the result of an accidental fall from a high floor of a building. He was in Thailand, with his wife, to attend a board of director's meeting of Tata Motors' subsidiary.
Karl Slym, who was previously president of General Motors, started heading Tata Motors in October 2012. Slym was the chief architect of a major overhaul within Tata Motors, who sought to unify the fragmented automotive company and modernize it.

Besides bringing functional changes within the company, Slym is also credited with major market initiatives such as the HorizoNext project and the ongoing image makeover of Tata Nano as an exciting city car.
"I am deeply saddened to inform you about the untimely and tragic demise of our company's Managing Director, Karl Slym. Karl was visiting Bangkok for a meeting of the Board of Directors of Tata Motors Thailand and passed away earlier today," said Cyrus Mistry, chairman, Tata Group in a statement.
"Karl joined us in October 2012, and was a valued colleague who was providing strong leadership at a challenging time for the Indian auto industry. In this hour of grief, our thoughts are with Karl's wife and family."
Slym's sudden death is sure to adversely affect the smooth functioning of Tata Motors and will slow down the aggressive offensive the automaker was on.
