Hyundai Issues Recall Over Airbag Issue
Hyundai has issued a recall of over 140,000 vehicles due to an issue with the airbags in their cars. Currently the recall is restricted to Puerto Rico and U.S., it is not clear if vehicles in India to suffer from the similar issue.
The South Korean manufacturer of automobile has filed documents with the US auto safety regulators. So far none of the owners of Hyundai vehicles have suffered any sort of injury in an accident, due to the airbag issue. Hyundai have reported a recall notice with the NHTSA(National Highway Transport Safety Administration).
The South Korean manufacturer claims to issue pertains only with their compact SUV. Hyundai states that there is an issue with the bolt that is used to attach the airbag to the vehicles steering column. The company claims that the bolts could have not been tightened enough.
Hyundai will be recalling over 1,40,000 vehicles out of which, 3,500 vehicles are from Puerto Rico. While the remaining 1,37,500 vehicles that are suspected to be affected by the airbag issue are in United States, according to a source. The models that are affected by the airbag issue were manufactured between 2011 and 2014.
Hyundai has asked its dealers to ask owners to bring their cars in, so that they can check the bolt that attaches the airbag to their steering column. The issue was noticed when service centres were tightening bolts during warranty periods.
