Honda Takes Top Positions Of Most Fuel Efficient Cars List
Maruti cars have been knocked off the list of most fuel efficient cars in India, according to a report published by ET. After several years of the Alto being the car that delivered the most mileage (more than a decade), it has been overthrown by sedans from the stables of Honda, the City and the Amaze.
The Honda City Diesel is now the most fuel efficient car in the country, according to data released by car makers across the country. The second position has been taken by another car from the Japanese manufacturer, the Amaze Diesel. Maruti, however, has taken a nosedive and doesn't feature anywhere in the top 15 of the list of most fuel efficient cars.
Officials from the No. 1 carmaker still hold that Maruti's newer models deliver better mileage than its predecessors. A spokesperson said, "Maruti Suzuki has shown significant improvements in fuel economy of both gasoline and diesel models by focused initiative like light weighting, powertrain improvements, etc."
It should be remembered that the economy figures released by the manufacturers may actually differ in real world conditions as they were all achieved during controlled testing. The reason behind Honda's success is its all-new i-DTEC diesel that is extremely frugal, and provides up to 26 kpl when doing duty in the City.
"As a latecomer to the diesel market, we had set the goal of delivering highest mileage. We were able to achieve it by innovation that is also in line with Honda's global philosophy to make environment-friendly and mileageconscious cars," said Jnaneswar Sen, Honda's senior vice-president of marketing and sales.
The Chevrolet Beat takes the last of the podium places on the list with it being the third-most fuel efficient car available in the country.
