Honda City Beats Hyundai Verna To Become Top Selling C-Segment Sedan
Honda City has well and truly arrived, gaining back its right place in the ladder. The new Honda City, launched in January has become an instant hit with 7,184 units sold in the first month and 7,213 units in February.
With that Honda City has displaced the reigning king of C-segment cars, Hyundai Verna, from its throne. The Verna, which was the segment leader until last year, sold 3,803 and 3,342 units during the same period compared to the City.

That's about half as many City sedans Honda sold. The other cars in the segment, VW Vento and Skoda Rapid sold 1294 and 1191 units and 1188 and 961 units respectively during Jan & Feb 2014. As you can see, more Honda City sedans left dealerships then the other three cars combined.

Honda City's resurgence can be mainly attributed to the introduction of the first ever diesel engine in its lineup. To add to its inherent appeal the Earth Dreams 1.5litre i-D-tec diesel is the most fuel efficient engine in India with an ARAI certified mileage of 26 km/l.
Meanwhile, Hyundai has certainly noticed the change and to balance the sudden shift the Korean automaker recently launched a new CX trim powered by the 1.4 liter petrol and diesel engines. The addition of the new trim level was accompanied with changes to the other variants, to make the Verna more appealing to buyers.
