Formula One Spanish GP 2014 Result

By Ajinkya

The fifth round of Formula One took place on European soil at Spain. It was no surprise who snatched the pole position for Sunday's race. The AMG Petronas Mercedes duo Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg started from first and second position.

They dominated the entire race and as always this season, put on a great show for the fans. They ended the race with just a half second gap between them. This is the fourth time the British and German driver have finished first and second. Hamilton now leads the championship by three points.

Red Bull Racing Renault driver Daniel Ricciardo settled for third place and was 49 seconds adrift of the cars ahead. German teammate Sebastian Vettel fought hard from 15th position on grid to get to fourth position, importantly, just behind his teammate.

It was a disappointing day for the Scuderia Ferrari team as they could not keep up with the Silver Arrows, who were almost 87 seconds ahead. Spanish driver Fernando Alonso overtook his Finnish team mate Kimi Raikkonen during the closing laps, to secure sixth position.

Their disappointment grew further as Lewis Hamilton overtook the seventh placed Ferrari and wasn't too far behind Fernando Alonso. The Italian team needs to come up with something to stop the Mercedes powered cars before it is too late.

Indian-owned Force India Mercedes saw both its drivers end up with points however, this wasn't their best run. Sergio Perez secured ninth position with his teammate ending the race in tenth position. They were closely followed by the McLaren Mercedes duo Jenson Button and Kevin Magnussen.

The next round will take place at the streets of Monaco, and it will be interesting to witness the turbocharged vehicles on a street track. The qualifying for the Monaco GP will commence on 24th of May with Race Day on the 25th of May. Can anybody stop the Mercedes powered AMG Petronas? How many consecutive victories can Lewis Hamilton amass? We will have to wait till the next Grand Prix at Monaco, so don't miss out on the action.
