Ford CEO Meets Narendra Modi Regarding Billion-Dollar Plant In Sanand
Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently met with CEO of Ford, Mark Fields, wanting to put Sanand and India on the map for manufacturing and exporting cars on a large scale. Sanand, is located in the PM's home state, Gujarat.
In a meeting with the Prime Minister, which was originally scheduled for 10 minutes, lasted for about 30 minutes as a very interactive discussion.
Mark Fields, has worked with Ford for the past 25 years.He officially took over as the Global CEO of Ford on first of July. During his visit to India with Raj Nair, who is Global Product Development head and CFO, he met vendors, key stakeholders, dealers and a few employers.

Ford had an existing relation with Modi when he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat regarding Ford's new manufacturing facility is being constructed in Sanand. Ford has said via email that they will continue their support and are looking forward to work for the general good of India.

Ford is to invest over a billion dollars for a 2.5 lakh capacity car plant in Gujarat. Prime Minister Modi wanted Ford to invest because he wanted an international automobile brand to set up there. Tata Motors has already invested there.
Ford, having India as a hub for their models like Figo and EcoSport, export cars to 50 countries now. They are looking to double this number once this new plant is functional.
The market share for Ford has increased 2.9% to 3.4% after the EcoSport was launched and the hatchback space dropped drastically from 7.66% to 4.13% over the last two years.
