Female-Friendly Parking Spots In Seoul
Seoul, the capital city of South Korea is undertaking a massive ($95 million) initiative to make the city women friendly.
As part of the initiative, The Metropolitan Government of Seoul will make several changes to the city such as, installing female toilets, stiletto-friendly sidewalks and creating female-friendly car parking space.
These are not just space reserved for women, but they are actually designed differently. According to Korea Times, "The spaces will be painted pink with emblems of women in the center. The special parking lots will be longer and wider than normal parking spaces."
These special symbols could be anything from bright pink skirt or flower icons etc., as seen in these images.
"It is like adding a female touch to a universal design and make things more comfortable for women," a government spokesperson told the newspaper.
The female-friendly parking spots are also reportedly conveniently located near shopping malls and are well lit and have easy access to elevators, exits, and security guards.
While there is no doubt women in Seoul will find these special parking spaces very convenient, some people may find this stereotyping offending. Nevertheless, the initiative, which has been taken with the best of interests is sure to be appreciated.
