Nissan India currently offers their budget hatchback in India, through Datsun brand. The Go by Datsun was recently launched and received a positive response by customers. It was a value for money product that offers a big engine and adequate space at an affordable price.

Recently the Global NCAP tested out several vehicles that ply on Indian roads. The Datsun Go was included in a crash test and it scored a disheartening zero stars. Test results also concluded that the hatchback has poor structural strength.

Global NCAP heads had written a letter to Nissan head's to not offer the Datsun Go. The hatchback does not offer ABS or airbags even as an option by Datsun. Smaller vehicles like Hyundai's Eon and Maruti Suzuki's Alto K10 offers airbags and abs as optional safety features.

Guillaume Sicard, President of Nissan India Operations expressed that the Datsun Go offered in India is safe enough. He explains that the hatchback has best in class braking, road holding, advanced suspension, improved range of headlamps, along with seats that do not tire the driver.

Datsun will be launching their Go Plus MPV in the com in months. This vehicle by the Japanese manufacturer too would not get ABS and airbags. It is currently on offer in the Indonesian market. The reaction of customers would be interesting to this proposition by Datsun India.

The Indian government plans to setup its own crash test facility by early next year. By October 2015 they plan to make it mandatory for manufacturers to offer airbags and ABS as standard equipment. Other vehicles that are currently being used will have to have safety equipment like ABS and airbags by October 2017.

Datsun offers its Go in India with a single petrol 3-cylinder 1.2-litre engine. It produces 67 bhp, along with 104 Nm of peak torque. The engine is paired to a 5-speed manual transmission and provides fuel efficiency of 20.63 kpl. The hatchback is priced between INR 3,12,000 to INR 3,79,000 ex-showroom, Delhi.
