Chevrolet In-Car 4G LTE Announced At CES 2014
Those in the U.S will soon have a good reason to opt for Chevrolet models. The reason being, the automaker has announced its cars will soon come with built-in 4G LTE connectivity.
At the Consumer Electronics Show 2014 Chevrolet revealed its newly formed partnership with AT&T, the providers of the fastest 4G LTE connectivity in North America.

The availability of 4G LTE in a car has several obvious advantages. For starters, it can act as a Wi-Fi hotspot for several mobile devices, can improving in-car video and audio streaming, make downloading and updating apps easier and also make car services more reliable. To further improve user experience, Chevrolet has announced a new App Store for vehicles with MyLink and 4G connectivity, who can now make use of the super fast connectivity to download apps.
Some of the apps that will be available for download from the new app store include, iHeartRadio, Priceline, The Weather Channel, NPR, Slacker Radio, TuneIn Radio, Cityseeker, Eventseeker, Glympse and Kaliki.
Chevrolet will not deploy AT&T's 4G LTE connectivity in all its models immediately and it will be available as an optional feature only. The first models that will be able to avail the 4G connectivity include the 2015 Corvette, Impala, Malibu and Volt.
This will by followed by the Equinox, Silverado and Silverado HD models. The remaining models will gain 4G connectivity option eventually. Chevrolet has not yet announced the pricing for in-car 4G conenctivity.
"The built-in 4G LTE connection will allow our vehicles to be updated with the latest software and apps," said GM's Global Connected Consumer president, Mary Chan. "This means that the driver's vehicle infotainment systems can keep getting better after purchase as customers can continue to add on and customize their features."
"We are focused on constantly improving the OnStar service so that the system continues to remain a trusted value-add for GM drivers," said Terry Inch, chief operating officer, OnStar. "4G LTE will enable the most powerful OnStar connection ever."
