Chembur To Santa Cruz Link Road Open To Commuters
Mumbai dwellers can finally travel faster from Chembur to Santa Cruz thanks to the link road between them, which was opened to commuters on Friday.
The Link road project cost approximately INR 450 crore and will help vehicles commute faster between Eastern Express highway and Western Express highway. The link road spans across 1.8 kilometres. It is the first double-decker flyover.
The Flyover will go across the Harbour and Central railway tracks. It can be accessed from Eastern Express highway, Tilak Nagar, Amar Mahal, Kurla west as well as East.
The opening of the Link Road was not a grand affair due to the rules prior to election, which are supposed to be held in Mumbai soon.
Currently the Link Road isn't jammed with traffic as many commuters still don't know it has been opened. It will only take 10 minutes to commute from Ghatkopar to Kurla West.
A few commuters who travelled on the Link road had complained of the road being not cleared of dirt and there was lots of dust along the way. It affected visibility to a certain degree.
The project began in 2006 and it took eight years to complete. The delay in construction was due to the permission required to build the double-decker flyover.
Approximately 3,000-plus families had to be relocated, and all the delays accounted to the escalation in the project cost, which was earlier planned within INR 115 crore.
This is good news for commuters who need to travel from the West to East everyday and could cut down travel time considerably.
