BMW i8 Hybrid India Debut At 2014 Auto Show
This year's edition of the Indian Auto Expo promises to bring several new and exciting models to India, both two wheeled and four wheeled ones, but arguably the most exciting of the new launches will be the one from BMW.
To be seen for the first time in India will be the Bavarian automaker's high-tech hybrid supercar, the BMW i8. The green supercar coming from BMW's newly formed ‘i' sub-brand delivers high performance but while emitting carbon equivalent to a compact car.

However, the technological advancement is not restricted to the powertrain but can rather be found throughout the car. The car's construction, for example, is like no other BMW vehicle, done using carbon fiber, aluminium and composite materials to keep weight to the minimum.
The hybrid powerplant consists of a mere 1.5 liter three cylinder engine and an electric motor which deliver a claimed combined power output of 357 bhp and a torque figure of 569 Nm. The BMW i8 is said to be capable of accelerating from 0-100 km/h in 4.5 seconds.

BMW i8 will be the most expensive model from the automaker in India, with an expected price in the region of INR 2 crores minus the taxes. Deliveries are only expected to begin by the end of 2014, with less than 10 units reserved for India.
As for the other BMW ‘i' branded car, the i3 compact city car. It will not be seen at the Auto Expo as BMW has no plans of launching its 'budget' plug-in hybrid/electric car in India.
